Day #72: Getting a little spiritual on yo ass

November 11th, 2008 / 2 Comments » / by Chris

Remembering those who gave, and those that supported and lost them.

Thank you.

My sugars this morning were 3.7

Once again I feel like I have more energy, and the juice is tasting better, so I’m moving into the home straight feeling pretty strong about the whole thing. Don’t get me wrong - I want to eat food, every time I see it or smell it. The simplest thing like onions frying in butter - man that smells good. But I’m in a pretty good place now with the feast, my sugars are still low, I’m drinking juice that actually tastes, dare I say it, nice (Kind of like strawberry milkshake), and I’m nearly there - although I’m not going to dwell on that because we all know what that leads to. Stick to one day at a time Chris!.

Now when I say that the juice tastes like strawberry milkshake - that’s to my taste buds, which have had 2 months of just green juice prior to that, so if you were to drink it, it’d probably taste like green juice, and bitter at that. For example, when I gave some to my wife to taste she couldn’t really taste the strawberry / blueberry combo, but to me it’s just right.

So, tomorrow I move into the last 20 day stretch of juice only, which is quite a landmark. The next being the move into the 80s, and then well…:)

OK, enough of the end, back to today.

I checked out some very inspirational audio by a chap called Dr. Wayne Dyer today, and I would suggest that you check him out to, if you’re interested in enhancing your life spiritually. I know I am right now. I think this juice feast has given me impetus to get a little more in touch with myself, and I mean that.

I may not be any more spiritual than when I started this Juice Feast, but I feel I am definitely more interested in pursuing my spiritual self and discovering what there is to be discovered, keeping an open mind. It seems to be a direction I’m headed in right now, trying to find out more about what the heck I’m supposed to be doing here, and how I can find out. And I’m starting, I think, to realise that I have the answers somewhere inside, I just need help knowing how to look.

Well, before I get too deep or hokey, I’ll sign off and head to bed.

A Demain mes amis,

‘night.

Day #71: Search and Rescue

November 10th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Chris

My sugars were once again 3.8 this morning, and I’ve definitely got more energy.

I didn’t do a lot with it today mind, it was mostly a desk day unfortunately.

I got a call from a friend who I worked at the mine with today though, which led to this evening’s activities. He’s been telling me for a while that Sparwood Search and Rescue is looking for volunteers, and that when I get more energy I should come to some of the practices, but there’s nothing stopping me from going to the “classroom” sessions in the meantime.

Well, he called me today to let me know that there was a classroom session on tonight, so I went. It was pretty interesting actually, a nice bunch of people to, including a couple of other guys from my old crew at the mine.

We learned what the job of SAR (Search and Rescue) is - to support the various first response organisations in searching for and rescuing people in the wilderness / mountains, which in BC, can be pretty easy to do - there’s a hell of a lot of it.

We also did a little practical role playing where we learnt what kind of questions and notes you should take when interviewing someone who is reporting a missing person.

It was a good experience, and I’ll be going again for sure. I’ve got a big book to read on all sorts of theory including first aid, map reading, rescue technique etc. etc. so there’s plenty to learn.

When I got back, my wife and I watched “Run Fatboy Run” a Simon Pegg movie directed by David Schwimmer - yes Ross from Friends. Good film. Harmless and entertaining, and Pegg is excellent in it.

Well, that’s it from me, I’m going to head up the wooden hill shortly.

Day #70: Raking in the years

November 10th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Chris

I lay in bed this morning calculating how young my body would be at the end of this juice feast / fast. And I worked out that I’d be 25 years and 75 days younger, give or take.

This is based on the premise on the book “There is a cure for Diabetes” that juice feasting takes your body back in time between 80 and 120 days for every day you juice feast. So assuming I’m in the middle, that’s 100 days younger for every day of the juice feast.

What does all this mean? Well on December 1st, when I finish the juice only part of the feast, my body will be 12 years old - holy shit! My body will be aching for Paul Hardcastle, Duran Duran, Iron Maiden, Level 42 and Bryan Adams, and thinking that girls are weird - no change there then. My body will have arrived back at September 18th 1983. I hope not all of my body goes back there - just the digestive system, and the hairline will be fine :)

Back to 2008 - I seemed to have more energy today, and raked up the remaining leaves from the garden, still a pretty big job, even though my son did it a couple of weeks ago, to make it easier for me on the second shift. It was good to get outside and do a bit of manual labour, instead of just tip tapping on this ol’ keyboard, and satisfying to complete it - there are no more leaves to come down now, so that’s that for another year.

A bit of DIY followed (fixing a loose curtain rail), and then a little housekeeping in terms of web domains and hosting.

I’m also just in the process of turning a blood glucose converter into an apple dashboard widget, so when its done I’ll put a link up or something, once I figure it all out.

I just realised I’ve not mentioned my sugar level from this morning: 4.3 still good, as it was a later rise.

So that’s it from me, back to the widget, and then bed.

A domani.

Day #69: You’e got a friend in an enema

November 9th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Chris

My sugars this morning, even with a little later start were 3.8

We headed to the States at around 12:00 - me armed with a couple of flasks full of green fuel, and my wife with some raw bread, nuts and fruit. What a pair eh.

The weather was pretty dismal today, rainy drizzle down in Fernie, but hopefully, up on the mountain it was all snow. It was same weather in Montana - hey ho, can’t have sunshine all the time. Unless you live in California of course.

It was a successful little shopping trip and we got a few thing for Chrimbo too. Got back late-ish evening and watched a couple of short films. My wife got these DVDs from a friend of hers, they’re called something like Spiritual Circle. It’s a deal where you join up for a year and get some DVDs and get to share them with other like minded friends, the idea being that you’re expanding your understanding of life an spirituality I think.

Some of them are good, some not so much. The Kirk Douglas movie the other night was an excellent one.

I’ve just remembered something, that I should mention for the record: I have been doing a lot less enemas recently, maybe one per week and yesterday I started to feel a pain in my right kidney area. It was there again this morning so I thought, that I should have another enema as I must have waste and toxins that need to be flushed.

So I had an enema this morning, and I was right, the pain in my kidney disappeared. The lesson: if you’re doing this juice feasting mullarkey, keep on top of the enema situation. So I will, it’s supposed to be about every 3 days, so I’ll keep on top of it now.

“Here endeth the lesson”, as Sean Connery once said to Kevin Costner.

Type to you tomorrow,

‘night.

Day #68: A Definite Win

November 7th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Chris

Well hello there. A I write this I’m absolutely exhausted and ready for bed, so this is going to be pretty short and sweet.

My sugars this morning were 3.8 - another good reading, but I got up a little earlier than usual - around 6:40am. Not much in the way of events today - I went around to a friend’s house today to try and help him with his printer, and I did, but it turns out that he’s got a duff one, and needs to take it back. Hey ho, that’s the way it goes with technology sometimes.

The strawberries tasted really nice in the juice today - a definite win there, I was actually drinking the juice this evening, sad that I didn’t have anymore to drink, and usually I’m thinking “Thank god that’s done for another day”!

We’ve off to the States tomorrow, to get a few things, and return our Green Cards - the 3 months is almost up. When you go into the office at the border to sign for your green card, there’s a couple of pictures of a certain George W, and Dick Cheney looking over you while you get finger printed and sign the forms. I’m looking forward to going into that office, in a couple of months, and looking back at a picture of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. I don’t think I’ll mind so much that he’s watching over my security screening :)

Anyway, enough from me, Bodkins time.

‘night.

Day #67: Strawberries and Illusions

November 7th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Chris

Sugars this morning were 4.1 and that’s with a little lie in - so pretty good.

My juice was better as hell this morning - don’t know why, but that first one, without the blueberry juice was a killer, absolutely horrible. Blueberry juice to the rescue though, the rest were bearable.

After a fair amount of web work, I headed into Fernie to get some more MSM from a local health food store. I walked in as I didn’t get out of the house at all yesterday and wanted to make a concerted effort to address that today. It was snowing, but it was nice to walk in the snow.

I had a nice cup of African Sunset Rooibos Tea at the Fernie Tea and Coffee House, read the paper for a bit, and then went and bought some strawberries from Overwaitea. That’s right - strawberries - they’re going to be a new addition to the juice, not as well as the blueberries, but instead of. They actually have a lower glycemic index than blueberries, so they should be a good (and cheaper) substitute.

And yes, our nearest supermarket is called Overwaitea :) It’s a BC chain of supermarkets and originally started as a guy selling tea on a market stall, way back when, and to make sure he kept his customers happy he would ive them a few extra pounds of tea in their order - Over weight tea. True story.

I don’t know how it came to be spelled Overwaitea, but hey, c’est la vie n’st ce pas.

My wife and I just finished watching a fantastic little movie called Illusions. I think it’s one of Kirk Douglas’ last performances -until he makes another, and it’s a really thoughtful film - you should definitely try and check it out if you get the chance.

Here’s the imdb link - and keep an eye out for the director - Michael Goorjian - I think he’ll do good things in the future.

Well that’s it from me for tonight - strawberries tomorrow!!!

‘night.

Day #66: Raw Inca Blue Birthday Cake

November 5th, 2008 / 3 Comments » / by Chris

Well hello there!

More snow overnight - that’s what I like to see. It’s still only a light dusting but it’s good :) And I heard my first Christmas tune on the radio today, and didn’t mind because it wasn’t to early and there’s snow on the ground - The Eagles version of “Please come home for Christmas”.

My sugars this morning were 3.7 and you know what? I mentioned in my last post that I look forward to getting a sweat on, well last night I did after writing the post, I went upstairs and did some resistance weights (remember I have more energy at night) and there were, that’s right, beads of sweat on my brow by the time I’d finished! Good stuff.

Ironically, I haven’t done anything exercise-wise today, not even a walk, I’ve been in the house all day, working after helping my wife set up her new iPod Nano on her computer. It was her birthday today you see.

And I should mention that she’s decided to go raw for a week - since last Friday, and she’s doing really well, but she eass very healthily anyway, so it’s not so much of a big jump for here, but she says she is missing sweet stuff. But raw on your birthday! Who’d do that?! That’s like juice feasting in winter - you wouldn’t catch me doing that, consuming nothing but cold green drinks in sub-zero temperatures. No way.

I just made my first birthday cake tonight too. It was easy, as it’s a raw cake for one. I just blended some nuts, raisins, inca berries and oats, put it in a mould and popped it in the freezer for a little while, turned it over onto a plate and then put some blueberries on top - et voila.

My wife’s eating it as I type and has just given me 10/10. Whoo Hoo!

And we’ve just named the recipe: Raw Inca Blue Birthday Cake

Well, we’re going to watch a short film right now, so I’m going to be sociable instead of social media and sign off, so until tomorrow mes amis,

Bonsoir.
