Day #24: Sitting on the bench when you need to

Sugar this morning was 3.7 - back down again.

My heads been in a funny place these last couple of days - lots of things on my mind, but I think I got a bit more of a handle on things today. Let’s hope so.

I took Bailey (our selectively genius dog) out for a walk in the afternoon, as I was pretty much glued to my PC all morning with work. We went around a few holes on the disc golf course, and then walked by the river. He had a good time, and so did I, the weather was nice and it was good to get out of the basement / office.

My wife came home early from work with a splitting headache, which she started the day with and she’s in bed resting as I type. Hopefully she’ll start tomorrow feeling better.

I’m starting to believe, really believe that this is going to work, that everything about the whole process just makes sense. I’ll be honest, sometimes I have my doubts. I’ll think, “When I get of this diet it’s only going to last a couple of weeks before everything starts to go back the way it was before the juice feast.”

But then I think “No way, that’s just scared talk, negativity. How can it not work?”

The way I see this juice feast period working is like resting an injury. If you get a hamstring injury, and the doc says “OK, no football for 6 weeks!” and you’re like “Really? How about 4?”

“No, you need to rest, otherwise you’ll just trigger the injury again when it’s nearly healed and you’ll be back to square 1″

So you take his advice in front of him, and then ignore him and low and behold: Twang! it goes during a match you shouldn’t have been playing.

It’s the same with this. the digestive system and the pancreas needs a break from creating all that insulin and breaking down all that food so it can take care of number 1 for a while. Keep eating the wrong stuff and you keep doing the damage.

So after 92 days my body should have had the time it needs to recuperate and mend itself, ready for my new beginning in December.

Makes sense really doesn’t it.

A domani.

It sounds like a great thing to do and it does make perfect sense. I really admire your determination. Stick with it man (like you needed me to say that ;-) ). And from a critical point of view, which I know will bother you, your blog’s a really good read.

You’ve actually inspired me to have a go at a week ‘raw’ (I know, WIMP!), although obviously in the ‘credit crunch’(no idea what the name for the almost recession in Canada is)I’ll finish what I’ve already got in the fridge first.

All the best mate.

Hey Mat!

Thanks for the support and words of kindness. It is hard work, especially with all the good food I’m missing that my wife cooks, but I feel like I don’t really have a choice if you know what I mean. I need to do this, it’s a simple as that.

Going raw for a week sounds interesting mate, you could actually east some pretty great stuff on that diet, check the web (I’m sure you already have) there’s some cool recipes out there.

Me personally, I’m looking forward to eating warm crunchy food, a nice coffee, that kind of thing, but there’s no way I’m going back to eating the crap I was eating. It’s gonna be a brand new start for me.

All the best Mat, and let me know on here how you do with you Raw week.

Chris.
